Experience a Lesson
A live, hands-on session where you experience the curriculum the way your students would.
Reading about inquiry-based instruction only gets you so far. In an Experience a Lesson session, you sit in the student seat, work through an actual Inquiry Journeys lesson, and then debrief what it would look like in your classrooms.

What happens in a session
Experience a Lesson is divided into three parts, is fully interactive, and designed for leaders.
A real Inquiry Journeys lesson.
We pick one lesson from the curriculum and run it with you in the room. You'll investigate sources, discuss what you notice, and build claims, the same way a student would.
A facilitated debrief.
Together, we step back and look at the teacher moves, the scaffolds built into the lesson plan, and how the approach plays out across a full unit.
Time for your district's context.
Bring questions about standards alignment, pacing, or implementation. We'll spend the last stretch on Q&A.
A sharper read on inquiry-based instruction, and what it asks of your team.
Most leaders evaluating curriculum read about pedagogy, watch a demo, and try to imagine the rest. Experience a Lesson skips the imagination step.
You’ll know what an Inquiry Journeys lesson asks of teachers, what it gives students, and whether the approach is the right fit for your district. If it is, we’ll help you take the next step. If it isn’t, you’ve still spent time thinking carefully about your social studies instruction.

Common questions
Who is this session for?
Curriculum leaders, instructional coaches, principals, and teachers evaluating K–5 social studies curriculum. This session is designed for people making a purchasing decisions, but classroom teachers are welcome.
How long is the session?
Sessions are 60 minutes: 30 minutes for a lesson walk-through 20 minute debrief and time for questions at the end.
Do I need to prep anything?
No. Show up with a notebook (paper or digital) and a willingness to be a student for a half hour.
Will my district's content be shared?
No. Other registrants will see your name and district in the participant list.
Is there a recording if I can't make it?
We don't record these sessions because we think the value is in the live experience. If none of the dates work, request a 1:1 walkthrough and we'll set one up with your team.
